Dr. Deal is the Associate Dean of the Pompea College of Business and Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of New Haven. In her Associate Dean role, Dr. Deal will manage Assurance of Learning and AACSB Accreditation matters.
Dr. Deal attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland where she earned a Ph.D in Accounting, a MBA with concentration in Finance, and BSc in Finance. Prior to her appointment at the University of New Haven, Dr. Deal served as an Associate Professor of Accounting at Eastern Connecticut State University for eight (8) years. There she taught accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, such as Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I, II, and III, Taxation, Advanced Financial, Auditing, Accounting Theory, and International Accounting for the Masters program, just to name a few. During her time at Eastern Dr. DealÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s university service has been wide spread. She has served on many university committees including the University Senate, Promotion and Tenure Committee, various Faculty Search committees, chaired the Accounting Faculty Search numerous times, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Minority Retention and Recruitment Committee (MRRC), the Department Evaluation Committee, and the Summer Development Curriculum Grant Committee. Dr. Deal also served as Co-Chair of the AACSB Accreditation Committee. She worked on developing criteria for assessing the quality and impact of intellectual contributions for each field, faculty qualifications, adopting assessment mechanisms for each of the business programs and tools for measurement, and developing a systematic Assurance of Learning process.
See MorePrior to Eastern, Dr. Deal also served as a Visiting Professor of Accounting at the University of Tampa where she taught Financial Accounting and Global Business and also an adjunct faculty at Morgan State University teaching both Accounting and Finance courses.
Dr. DealÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s scholarly research interest centers on International Accounting, examining Capital Markets in Emerging Economies, accounting regulations such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and Earnings Management in developing countries. Her current research agenda however, will focus on pedagogical research and also the Accounting and Financial implications of Emerging Economies; specifically, the economy of the Bahamas.
Although her academic background centers on Accounting, she also has a passion for Entrepreneurship. She has participated along with her Eastern students, in University of New HavenÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s Charger Startup Weekend and has served as a judge in the tv show Pitch Perfect for two (2) seasons of the show.

The University of New HavenÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s MayorÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s Advisory Commission hosted a debate for the West Haven Mayoral candidates Dorinda Borer and Barry Lee Cohen. The debate was moderated by Chris Haynes, associate professor of political science, and Candice Deal, associate professor of accounting and interim associate dean of the Pompea College of Business.
