About Samuel

Dr. Daniels started his career as an engineering for UTC Chemical Systems in San Jose, CA. With a fresh B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Boston University, he had the exceptional privilege to work on solid rockets and integral rocket ramjets in one of the most scenic and metropolitan areas in the world. After a wonderful experience, he yearned for more learning and returned to Boston University to continue his education in Aerospace Engineering. Earning a masterÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s in aerospace with numerous incredible research/teaching opportunities with Textron Lycoming on engine design and teaching laboratories, he chanced to work with Dr. Asim Yildez and Dr. Mark Hinders (William & Mary) on the modeling of vibrations in composite materials which led to his Ph.D. on "Interface Effects in Elastic Wave Scattering".Dr. Daniels was originally from Connecticut and when an opening at the University of New Haven to teach mechanical engineering appeared, it was a wonderful chance to return to home and give back to his community as a teacher and scholar.

Current Interests

In the 1990ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™s, Dr. Daniels continued his research on composites and materials until developing a great concern and interest in the educational approach to teaching engineering. He joined the oversight & development team for one of the most innovative engineering curriculum changes ever attempted. A 10-course sequence of multidisciplinary project-based courses to assist young engineers develop and grow as they learn engineering skills and content. Now, ten years later and still working with the oversight team, Dr. Daniels is now restructuring the MSME program to focus more on projects and real-world skills needed by companies and Ph.D. students. Always learning and building skills, Dr. Daniels runs dozens of free seminars per year to train BS & M.S. students in the skill sets they need.

Currently, you might find Dr. Daniels on the roof of the engineering building adding sensors to the wind generator & solar panel. Or perhaps youÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™ll see him at the SAE Supermileage Competition cheering on team as they attempt to make the top ten once again at the national competition. Most likely youÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ™ll find him in the mechanical labs, training or helping students with their projects.
