About Shikha

I completed my Ph.D. in Toxicology from Dept. of Medical Elementology and Toxicology, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India, in 2018. In addition, I have a M.S. degree in forensic science from Dept. of Forensic Science and Criminology, School of Life Sciences, Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar, M.P., India. My Ph.D. work was majorly focused on the nuclear receptor mediated mechanisms of the endocrine disrupting chemical Bisphenol A (BPA).

After receiving my Ph.D., I obtained my first postdoc position in the Department of Environmental Medicine & Toxicology, University of Rochester, New York for two years, where I was introduced to inhalation toxicology and molecular mechanisms of lung toxicities and injuries due to cigarettes smoke and electronic cigarettes. In 2021, I started my second postdoc, in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, School of Public Health Bloomington, Indiana. I combined the expertise acquired in both my pre-doctoral and first postdoctoral experiences. I characterized the exposure and assessed the effects of potentially leaching phthalates (plasticizers) from the construction materials of electronic cigarettes and vaping devices. After having more than four years of post-doctoral experience in Public Health and Toxicology, I joined the Department of Forensic Science as an Assistant Professor, in 2024 at University of New Haven and bought my Public Health and Toxicology experiences back to Forensic Science. I am excited to work with Forensic Science grad and undergrad students.
