ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ

The lifeblood of the University of New Haven are the faculty and staff members who dedicate their lives to helping our students reach their goals. Periodically, weÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™ll introduce you to a member of the staff so you can learn more about him or her ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ“ beyond their day-to-day work.

Next up is Taritha Middleton ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™11, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™14 M.S., assistant registrar for catalog and Commencement, an animal lover who is planning to get a dog of her own this summer.

Renee Chmiel: What are your favorite TV shows?
Taritha Middleton: This may sound strange, but I love crime shows. Forensic Files, as well as ID network and HLN shows, are some of my favorites. I am very intrigued by how science and good police work solve crimes. Some cases that are decades old are solved. It amazes me the strides that have been made in science to solve cold cases.

RC: When you were a student at the University of New Haven, what did you enjoy the most?
TM: I truly enjoyed interacting with my classmates, learning together, and working together on projects. It was gratifying learning new things from them and from our professors. My favorite activity was our TV production class. We had a great time putting on our own show for our final project.

RC: What is your favorite hobby?
TM: My favorite hobby is listening to live music. My friends are always telling me IÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™m always out enjoying music, and, yes, I am. I love supporting live music. IÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™ve met the most wonderful friends (who are now family) while seeing my friendsÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™ bands play. I truly love hearing new music and meeting new people.

One night, I had gone to an open mic event and my friendÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s son played guitar. I was blown away at how good he was. He had taught himself to play by watching YouTube videos. He was 15 years old the first time I saw him play, and now heÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s 18, and he will be playing a benefit IÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™m hosting in August.

RC: Have you had any teachers or professors who made an important difference in your life?
TM: My favorite professors at the University who made a big impact on me are Dr. Tracy Tamborra and Dr. Tanya Grant. They have such a passion for the field of criminal justice, and they are two very strong women who I greatly admire. They both stand up for what they believe in, and that is something I strive to do every day.

RC: Do you have any pets?
TM: I want to get a dog this summer. I love animals. I consider my brotherÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s dog and cats to be my own. They are too cute and fun. Also, my neighborÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s cat is my bodyguard. He loves hanging out on my deck making sure all is well.

RC: Are there any causes you are passionate about?
TM: I am very passionate about organizations that help people live the way they want to live and help people be who they are meant to be. I am a very big supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and cultural organizations.

RC: What do you enjoy the most about your role at the University?
TM: What I enjoy the most is the interaction I have with the students. I love seeing them when they start their degree programs and when the graduate. ItÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s a wonderful thing to see them accomplish their goals.
