Alumnus Sworn in as New Deputy Chief of University Police

Adam Brown '94, '19 M.S., a member of a proud Charger family, is looking forward to continuing to protect and serve the University of New Haven community in his new role as deputy chief of the UniversityӰԭs police department.

Mikayla Brown '24 is looking forward to beginning her studies at the University of New Haven this fall. She will find at least one familiar face on campus, as her father, Adam Brown Ӱԭ94, Ӱԭ19 M.S., has been appointed as the UniversityӰԭs new deputy chief of police.

ӰԭI am very proud of everything heӰԭs worked so hard for,Ӱԭ said Mikayla, who is planning to study biochemistry. ӰԭHe works very hard Ӱԭ both in his career and as a parent.Ӱԭ

Adam Brown, who spent 20 years with the , will now be working alongside his former criminal justice classmate, James Gilman Ӱԭ93, chief of the UniversityӰԭs police department and a fellow veteran of the Connecticut State Police.

Chief Gilman was one of several officers from the UniversityӰԭs police department, along with BrownӰԭs family members and West Haven , who saw Brown sworn in as the departmentӰԭs new deputy chief during a ceremony that took place recently on the West Haven Green.

ӰԭItӰԭs wonderful to be a University of New Haven alum and to now have my own kids at the University,Ӱԭ said Deputy Chief Brown, who previously served as executive director of public safety and global security at the University. ӰԭWhen I was a student, I liked that the professors were very well-versed in the field and that they brought great experience to the classroom. They were book smart and also very successful in their careers, and they shared their experience.Ӱԭ

Deputy Chief BrownӰԭs son, Trevor Brown Ӱԭ21, plans to follow in his fatherӰԭs footsteps. A criminal justice major, he is looking forward to beginning his own career in law enforcement.

Deputy Chief Brown is looking forward to continuing to be an active member of the University community and to ensuring the safety of his fellow Chargers.
