PLTW College Credits at the University of New Haven
Secondary school students from any PLTW school may apply for University of New Haven college credit for each of the eligible PLTW course listed below:

PLTW-IED (Introduction to Engineering Design) for University of New Haven MECH1101 (Engineering Graphics) Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects. They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3-D modeling software, and use an engineering notebook to document their work. |

PLTW-CSA (Computer Science A) for University of New Haven CSCI 1110 (Intro to C programming) Computer Science A (CSA) builds on the basic skills learned in Computer Science Principles (CSP) to teach students authentic AndroidTM app development. Students in this course continue to hone their communication and collaboration skills while learning to use a variety of tools. The primary goal of the course is to create independent thinking app developers; every unit in this course builds on students' prior knowledge and skills until they are able to complete an app development cycle independently from the ground up. |

PLTW-DE (Digital Electronics) for University of New Haven ELEC1155 (Digital Systems- I) From smartphones to appliances, digital circuits are all around us. This course provides a foundation for students who are interested in electrical engineering, electronics, or circuit design. Students study topics such as combinational and sequential logic and are exposed to circuit design tools used in industry, including logic gates, integrated circuits, and programmable logic devices. |

PLTW-POE (Principles of Engineering) for University of New Haven EASC1107 (introduction to Engineering) Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Next, they apply what they know to take on challenges like designing a self-powered car. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. |

* PLTW-EDD (Engineering Design & Development) for University of New Haven UNIV 1141 (Life on Earth-Critical Thinking) The knowledge and skills students acquire throughout PLTW Engineering come together in Engineering Design and Development as they identify an issue and then research, design, and test a solution, ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of engineers. Students apply the professional skills they have developed to document a design process to standards, completing Engineering Design and Development ready to take on any post-secondary program or career. |

PLTW ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ“CEA (Civil Engineering and Architecture) for University of New Haven CCIVL2218 (Civil Engineering and Architecture) Students learn the fundamentals of building design, site design, and development. They apply math, science, and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects and document their work using 3D architectural design software. You can change the world, one project at a time. |

To qualify for college credit for PLTW courses students must meet the following requirements:
Students earn at least 80% average in the course {Introduction to Engineering Design (2 credits), Digital Electronics (3 credits), Principle of Engineering (3 credits), or Engineering Design and Development (3 credits)*, Cybersecurity (3 credits).
Students must also score adequate grades at the End of the Course assessment administered by PLTW according to table below:

* Note: To qualify for college credit for EDD, student must first earn college credit for IED and POE. Currently, the EDD course does not have an End of Course Exam. The regular course grades for EDD is used to determine the University of New Haven grade.
Note: There is a $200 fee to receive college credit for each course.
The grade a student receives in the high school PLTW course may differ from the college credit grade. If a student subsequently attends the University of New Haven the college credit grade would be counted towards his/her overall grade point average. Students must meet the college enrollment requirements for University of New Haven majors. If a student attends another university, the course credits may be transferred without the letter grade.
Note: A student who successfully takes a course in the current academic year must take the exam at the end of the course and register for college credit before December of year of completion. For information on how to apply for college credit visit the PLTW: Students and Parents page.
