College Access Programs

The University of New Haven collaborates with select community-based organizations & high schools as a college-access resource for their students. Through this allyship students have opportunities to explore the college experience while still in high school, have a trusted guide through application & enrollment processes, and financial supports through scholarship & employment opportunities.

Criteria for participation and eligibility are subject to change as collaborations are periodically renewed. Benefits & scholarships are for on-ground undergraduate study at the University of New Haven. Scholarships are awarded at time of acceptance. Details listed below reflect 2024/2025 Academic Year information and may be updated.

Ansonia High School

Eligibility for current Ansonia High School students.

  • Eligible students in grades 11-12 have the opportunity to participate in Pre-college to enroll in one on-campus college course. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus.     Seniors accepted to the University of New Haven are eligible for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of $18,000 annually; students with 3.3/higher GPA qualify for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of $20,000 annually. These awards are only for first-time students and cannot be combined with other merit scholarships from the University, but may be stacked with the UniversityÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s Additional Scholarships.

Attleboro High School - Criminal Justice Cohort

Eligibility for current Attleboro High School students enrolled in AHS Criminal Justice Cohort courses.

  • Eligible students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to participate in Precollege, applying for three-credits each for Sophomore year Introduction to Criminal Justice, Junior year Introduction to Policing (must have University of New Haven credit for pre-requisite Introduction to Criminal Justice), and during Senior year enroll in two online University of New Haven courses Criminal Law and Principles of Criminal Investigation. Precollege tuition fee is $500 per course and students are required to cover costs of textbooks. must be submitted & paid for before December 1st of the calendar year following course completion.

    Students interested in participating in a Summer Youth Academy session may be eligible for a one-time discounted registration fee for academic session (does not apply to overnight accommodation add-on).


Connecticut Auto Admit Program (CAAP)

Eligibility for graduating CT high school seniors who have a 3.0 weighted GPA or a 2.75 unweighted GPA

  • Student eligibility determined by Common App profile account details self-reported by student; student must confirm sharing information to participating colleges & universities in Common App prompt. This program waives the application fee, student essays, and recommendation letter.

    Admission to some programs may require additional student information. Certain programs are excluded, including Early Decision applicants, and Forensic Science, Dental Hygiene, Graphic & Digital Design, Interior Design & Pre-Architecture, Art & Creative Technology, and all Tagliatela College of Engineering majors; If one of these programs is your intended major, the University of New Haven will consider your application upon receipt of additional admission requirements.


Engineering & Science University Magnet School

Eligibility for current ESUMS High School Students.

  • Eligible students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to participate in precollege through our Segue to Education Program (STEP) to enroll in one on-campus college course per semester, totaling three free courses under any program. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus.     Seniors accepted to the University of New Haven are eligible for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of 50% tuition annually; those with 3.5-3.9 GPA are eligible for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of 75% tuition annually; those with 4.0 GPA & accepted to qualifying STEM majors are eligible for renewable merit scholarship of 100% tuition annually. These awards are only for first-time students.


Future 5

Eligibility for current Future 5 recognized participants.

  • Students accepted to the University of New Haven are eligible for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of 50% tuition annually. This award is only for first-time students and on-ground programs taught directly through the University and not third-party (OPM) providers. This award cannot be combined with other merit scholarships from the University, but may be stacked with the UniversityÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s Additional Scholarships.


Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc.

Eligibility for current Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Program, Inc. recognized participants

  • Eligible students in grades 11-12 have the opportunity to participate in Precollege to enroll in one on-campus college course per academic year, totaling three free courses under any program. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus. Eligibility for current NCRF recognized participants.

  • Students accepted to the University of New Haven are eligible for a minimum renewable merit scholarship of 50% tuition annually. This award is only for first-time students and on-ground programs taught directly through the University and not third-party (OPM) providers. This award cannot be combined with other merit scholarships from the University, but may be stacked with the UniversityÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™s Additional Scholarships.


New Haven Promise

Eligibility for current New Haven Promise recognized participants.

  • Eligible students in grades 11-12 have the opportunity to participate in Precollege to enroll in one on-campus college course per academic year, totaling three free courses under any program. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus. Eligibility for current Notre Dame High School, West Haven Students

  • Eligible students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to participate in precollege through our Charging Ahead Program (CAP) to enroll in one on-campus college course per semester, totaling three free courses under any program. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus. The Thomas and Elsie Deeley Foundation

Eligibility for graduating St. Paul High School, Bristol, CT students recognized by the Thomas and Elsie Deeley Foundation.

  • Eligible students must apply to the University of New Haven by Early Action I deadline of December 15th. Students must submit FAFSA by December 15th.


The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School

Eligibility for current Urban Assembly New York Harbor School students.

  • Graduating Urban Assembly New York Harbor School students enrolled at University of New Haven are eligible for course waiver of MARA 1101 Introduction to Marine Affairs.


Waterbury Promise

Eligibility for current Waterbury Promise recognized scholars.

  • Eligible students in grades 11-12 have the opportunity to participate in Precollege to enroll in one on-campus college course per year, totaling three free courses under any program. Students interested in applying to the program must have a minimum high school GPA of a 3.0 and C or better in any prior Precollege courses. Tuition cost is covered by the University, however students are required to cover costs of textbooks, lab and activity fees for the respective course, as well as any transportation to campus.     Criminal Justice Cohort

    Eligible students participating in criminal justice cohort courses in grade 11 have the opportunity to participate in Precollege, applying for three-credits each for Junior year Introduction to Criminal Justice and Race, Class and Gender Issues in CJ; tuition cost is covered by the University for junior year cohort courses. To receive credit for junior year courses, must be submitted before December 1st of the calendar year following course completion.

    During Senior year students continue in the criminal justice cohort enrolling in up-to two on-ground University of New Haven courses Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure I at the discounted pre-college tuition fee of $500 per course; students are required to cover costs of textbooks and transportation to campus. To be considered for senior year courses students must complete the before June 1st of their junior year.
