At the University of New Haven, our students can choose from eight different language options. Why not minor in Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Italian or Spanish? Our students can also study Farsi, French, and German.

Selected Courses and Programs

  • This course is intended to develop studentsÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ™ proficiencies in speaking, writing, listening, and reading so that they can be at a level necessary for advanced literature and culture courses. It will emphasize composition and oral discussion as well as concepts necessary for a sophisticated appraisal of literature and culture in the target language.

  • Builds on the Chinese language skills and develops speaking abilities through class practice and grammatical drills. Additional Chinese characters studied step by step.

  • Stresses pronunciation, aural and reading comprehension, basic conversation, and the fundamental principles of grammar.

  • This course is a comprehensive exposure to essential Latin American cultural issues and patterns as they have developed historically. It will study how these issues manifest through representative works of literature as well as popular and highbrow cultural media such as music and film. The course will also provide a unique opportunity to produce in-depth cultural and literary analysis via oral discussion and written essays.

Funds are available from federal and state governments, private sponsors, and from university resources. More than 85 percent of the University's full-time undergraduate students receive some form of financial assistance.
